STREAMING GUIDELINES         MARCH 2014

We invite and welcome your live audio streams for this event and beyond, as part of an evolving network of open microphones, set to create a live archive of terrestrial soundscapes as yet unheard.

This is a summary of ways to set up a stream. There are a number of tried and tested approaches, including ones requiring minimal technical know-how.

To join the network, for help choosing a method or getting started, or with any queries, you can contact us directly.

RASPBERRY PI STREAMBOX

With a Raspberry Pi mini computer (eg £27.86 from here), you can stream in mono or stereo, over ethernet or wifi. Setup takes a matter of minutes using our pre-configured SD Card. The system is designed for long-term trouble-free operation. Your stream will appear on the Locus Sonus Audio Streammap and will be included in the REVEIL broadcast.

What to do:

- Contact Grant Smith or support at locusonus and Stephane Cousot to express an interest in setting up a stream.

AND / OR

- Open an account at Locus Sonus here

We will:

Send you detailed instructions and an equipment list. We can supply free pre-configured SD cards, and other equipment in some cases.

REVEIL ON MIXLR

Mixlr is a free live streaming application for computer or phone. What to do:

- Sign up to download the broadcast app and be streaming in stereo in minutes. You will probably need an external microphone (ask about microphones).

- Do some testing and make a Showreel.

- Follow REVEIL. Tell us about your stream.

- Consider joining or setting up a dawn chorus event. IDCD for info.

We will:

Feature your stream on the REVEIL broadcast.

FROM A LAPTOP

You can use a laptop to stream to the Locus Sonus server. See these Guidelines for details on the Locus Sonus streaming app for any operation system. You can also stream using a number of other applications, including Broadcast Using This Tool (BUTT), which is reliable and free.

What to do:

- Contact Grant Smith or support at locusonus and Stephane Cousot to express an interest in setting up a stream.

AND / OR

- Open an account at Locus Sonus here

We will:

Confirm your stream name and the settings to use to appear on the Locus Sonus Soundmap; send you any streaming software you need; help you get set up; include you in the REVEIL round the world broadcast.

MORE

A new streaming app is available for Android - in Beta from Locus Sonus, it is working well - download

BROADCAST

The URL of the REVEIL stream is available for any broadcaster to take, whether for an extended re-broadcast or one or more dips into the streams.

We also invite broadcasters to contribute your own sounds of dawn by putting your microphone out the window at sunrise.

And we would be very happy if you would tell your listeners about this event and invite them to provide their own sound streams.
